Tragedy in Kathua: Four Soldiers Killed, Six Injured in Terrorist Attack

In a despicable act of cowardice on July 8, 2024 five Indian Army soldiers were killed and six others injured when terrorists ambushed an army convoy in the remote Kathua district. The attack occurred near the Badnota village in the Lohai Malhar area, where the terrorists hurled grenades and opened indiscriminate fire on the army vehicles.

The security forces immediately retaliated, but the terrorists managed to flee into the nearby forest, taking advantage of the dense vegetation. Reinforcements have been rushed to the area and a massive search operation is underway to trace and neutralize them. Terrorists are believed to be hiding in the forest.

Jammu Region Sees Surge in Terror Attacks

This was the first such ambush in the Kathua district, which was relatively less affected by terrorism in the past. However, the Jammu region has seen a spate of terror attacks in the last three years, with at least 30 incidents reported since mid-2021. The security agencies suspect that multiple groups of terrorists, including some fresh infiltrators, are active in the Reasi, Doda and Kathua areas.

Just a day before the Kathua attack, six terrorists were killed in two separate encounters in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district. The region has witnessed a surge in terrorist activities, with the security forces engaged in a relentless battle to root out the scourge of terrorism.

Security Forces Vow to Eliminate Terrorist Menace

Condemning the cowardly attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said that the fight against terrorism in the region is in its “last stage,” and a multi-pronged strategy has been adopted to destroy the remaining terrorist network.

“The fact that J&K Police has been relentlessly pursuing the goal of uprooting the terrorist ecosystem can be gauged by the fact that in 2023, 55 foreign and 21 local terrorists have been neutralized,” said the Director General of Police (DGP) in a message.

The DGP further assured the people of Jammu and Kashmir that the security forces are fully committed to eradicating the menace of terrorism and restoring lasting peace in the region. “We will leave no stone unturned to ensure the safety and security of our citizens,” he said, vowing to eliminate the cowardly terrorists who have targeted the brave soldiers.

The nation stands united in its resolve to crush the scourge of terrorism and pay a befitting tribute to the martyred soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Their valor and dedication will continue to inspire the security forces in their relentless fight against the enemies of peace and stability.
