Plan to Disrupt Upcoming Elections Thwarted
Kupwara, May 16: In a significant joint operation, security forces apprehended a terrorist associate and seized a cache of arms and ammunition in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
An operation was initiated based on specific intelligence. The joint effort, involving Kupwara Police, the Army’s 3 Naga regiment, and the 97 Battalion BSF, led to the arrest of Mushtaq Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rahman Lone, from Patru Keran.
Upon his arrest, Mushtaq disclosed information about the weapons cache intended for use in terrorist activities during the upcoming elections. The seized items included two pistols, two pistol magazines, two hand grenades, and 54 rounds of 10 and 9 mm ammunition. Mushtaq was apprehended during a naka (checkpoint) checking operation in the Lone Harie area, under the jurisdiction of Kralpora police station.
The police official emphasized their commitment to preventing any disruptions to the peace. “We won’t let nefarious designs, which have always aspired to disturb peace and tranquility, succeed in their mission. We are committed to ensuring peaceful elections,” the official stated.
