On Feb 07, an innocent civilian from Punjab, Amrit Pal, was killed by terrorists in the Shl Kadal area of Srinagar. The victim is a resident of Amritsar who had come to Kashmir to earn a living and sustain his family back home. In the attack, another person, Rohit Masih was also injured who later succumbed to injures at SKIMS, Soura. Having spent the winter away from the Valley, they had returned only on Wednesday.

The UT of Jammu and Kashmir has been disturbed by violence against non-locals since 2019 after the Union Government decided to abrogate Article 370, which provided special status to the state. In October 2023, a migrant worker from Uttar Pradesh was shot dead in Pulwama when terrorists fired on a labourer in the Tumchi Nowpora area of Pulwama and brutally killed him. Terrorists are unable to tolerate the normalcy and development of valley and hence resort to terror attacks. They want to disturb the peace of valley and give out a negative image of valley. This marks the second terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir in 2024. Earlier in January, an Army convoy was attacked by terrorists in the Poonch area. Later an operation was launched by Indian Army after the attack to flush out the terrorists from the area.
