Jammu, April 12, 2025: In a significant blow to terrorist activity in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces neutralized three heavily armed terrorists during an ongoing encounter in the dense Chhatru forest area of Kishtwar district. The operation, which began on April 9 following intelligence inputs, has also led to the recovery of sophisticated arms and ammunition, including an M4 rifle and AK-47 rifles.
Addressing a joint press conference at the 5 Sector Assam Rifles Headquarters, Brigadier J.B.S. Rathi, Commander of 5 Sector Assam Rifles and Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Shridhar Patil of the Kishtwar-Doda-Ramban Range provided details of the operation. Brigadier Rathi highlighted the challenges posed by tough terrain and adverse weather conditions but commended the professionalism and tactical acumen displayed by the troops. “Despite bad weather and nighttime challenges, our forces ensured zero casualties on our side while eliminating the threat,” he said.
Operation Chhatru: A Tactical Victory
The joint operation by the Indian Army’s White Knight Corps and Jammu and Kashmir Police began after credible intelligence reports indicated the presence of terrorists in the area. One terrorist was killed on April 11, followed by two more on April 12. The slain terrorists are believed to be part of the Saifullah Module from Pakistan, although their identities are still being verified.
Recovered items include one M4 rifle, two AK-47 rifles, magazines, bullets, made-in-Pakistan medicines, first aid materials and other warlike stores. These findings underscore the cross-border nature of terrorist activities in the region.
Enhanced Security Measures Across Jammu Region
DIG Shridhar Patil emphasized that the operation is part of a larger strategy to counter terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He revealed that security forces have ramped up surveillance across Kishtwar, Doda and Udhampur districts using advanced technologies such as drones, facial recognition systems and vehicle scanners. “Our focus is on detecting movement and preventing infiltration into these hilly regions,” Patil stated.
The operation is being conducted in phases to ensure thorough clearance of the area while prioritizing civilian safety. Night cordons have been established to prevent escape routes for terrorists.
Security forces have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately. “Community participation is crucial in maintaining peace and security in the region,” Brigadier Rathi added.
A Message of Resilience
The successful elimination of these terrorists sends a strong message against cross-border terrorism while showcasing the unwavering commitment of Indian security forces to safeguard national integrity. Operations like Chhatru highlight the synergy between various agencies in tackling evolving security challenges effectively.
As surveillance intensifies and operations continue across vulnerable areas in Jammu and Kashmir, security forces remain resolute in their mission to eliminate threats and ensure peace for citizens.
