The ongoing encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district has drawn attention to the sacrifices made by security forces in their relentless fight against terrorism. The operation, which began on March 23 in Sanyal village near the International Border, has claimed the lives of four brave policemen from the Jammu and Kashmir Police. Their martyrdom underscores the dangers faced by those tasked with safeguarding the nation against cross-border threats.

According to Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat, the operation was initiated after a local couple reported suspicious movements in the area. Security forces quickly responded, leading to an initial exchange of fire during which the terrorists fled, leaving behind arms, ammunition, and explosives. Over the next few days, a massive search operation was launched involving multiple agencies, including the Army, BSF, CRPF and police. Advanced surveillance tools such as drones and UAVs were deployed to track down the infiltrators.

On March 27, security forces engaged in a fierce gunfight with the terrorists, resulting in the elimination of two heavily armed infiltrators. However, during this encounter, four policemen lost their lives due to a clear line of sight that left them vulnerable. DGP Prabhat emphasized that the J&K Police remains resolute in its mission to eliminate terrorism and will not rest until such activities are completely stopped.

The operation has also highlighted Pakistan’s continued role in sponsoring terrorism. The infiltrators are believed to have entered Indian territory through a newly-dug tunnel or ravine route near the border. Security agencies recovered incriminating materials from the site, including M4 carbine magazines, grenades, IED components, and other supplies meant for sustaining prolonged operations.

The loss of four officers is a tragic reminder of the cost borne by security forces in their fight against terror. Their sacrifice has been hailed as an act of exceptional bravery that will be remembered in golden letters. The DGP paid tribute to their courage while reiterating that operations will continue until all threats are neutralized.

The encounter has also brought into focus the broader challenge of infiltration along J&K’s borders. Recent incidents have shown an uptick in attempts by terrorists to cross into Indian territory using sophisticated methods. Security forces remain vigilant and committed to thwarting these efforts while ensuring civilian safety.

As operations continue in Kathua, tributes pour in for the martyred policemen who laid down their lives for the nation. Their courage serves as an inspiration for all and reinforces India’s resolve to combat terrorism with zero tolerance. While mourning their loss, it is imperative to support security forces with resources and infrastructure needed to tackle such challenges effectively.
