Kulgam, May 4, 2025: The body of 23-year-old Imtiaz Ahmad Magray, identified as an Over Ground Worker (OGW) with links to terrorists, was recovered from a nallah in the Adbal Wattoo area of DH Pora in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Sunday. According to police sources, Magray had confessed to knowledge of terrorist hideouts harboring two Pakistani terrorists and was assisting security forces in locating these dens.

During a cordon and search operation (CASO) launched on the morning of May 4, Magray was taken under close supervision, with the entire operation monitored via drone footage. While being led to the suspected hideout near the riverbed, he allegedly attempted to escape by jumping into the Vishaw Nallah and drowned in the strong currents. Police have initiated legal proceedings and are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

This development comes amid intensified security operations following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 civilians. The arrest and involvement of OGWs like Magray highlight the critical role local support networks play in sustaining terrorism in the region. The security forces’ relentless pursuit of such operatives underscores their commitment to dismantling terrorist infrastructure despite challenging terrain and hostile environments.

The security forces continue to operate with vigilance, employing advanced surveillance and coordinated ground actions to root out terror networks. The recovery of Magray’s body and the intelligence gathered from his confession represent significant steps in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts. Yet, balancing security imperatives with respect for human rights remains a critical challenge in the volatile region.

As investigations proceed, authorities face the dual task of neutralizing militant threats while addressing public concerns to maintain trust and stability in Jammu and Kashmir.
