Srinagar, July 16, 2025: In a firm stance against the growing drug menace, Srinagar Police have seized and attached a residential property valued at Rs 25 lakhs belonging to a notorious drug peddler, under the stringent provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This decisive action, taken on July 15, aims to disrupt the financial backbone supporting narcotics trafficking in the region.

The attached property is a single-storeyed house located in Pamposh Colony, Palpora area, owned by Ashiq Ahmed Sheikh, a known criminal figure involved in FIR No. 04/2024 registered at Safakadal Police Station under relevant sections of the NDPS Act. Investigations revealed that the property was purchased with the illicit proceeds generated from drug trafficking activities that gravely endanger public health and security, particularly among local youth.

Operating under Sections 68-E and 68-F of the NDPS Act, the police followed due legal procedures to formally seize and attach the immovable asset. The law prohibits any sale, transfer, or disposal of the property without prior permission from the competent authority, thereby ensuring that criminals are stripped of their ill-gotten wealth.

This action resonates with previous efforts by Jammu and Kashmir Police, who have in recent months attached drug-related properties worth from Rs 25 lakhs to over Rs 1 crore across Srinagar and neighbouring districts. Each such operation strikes a blow at narcotics networks by dismantling their economic infrastructures, which are vital for sustaining drug trafficking operations.

Srinagar Police reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to eliminating drug abuse from society and urged citizens to support these efforts by sharing any information related to drug trafficking. They emphasized that public cooperation is crucial to build a safer, drug-free Srinagar.

By targeting not just the supply but also the financial sinews of narcotics crimes, the authorities aim to create a lasting impact against drug peddlers. This latest property attachment stands as a testament to the sustained and systematic crackdown by law enforcement to protect public health and safety and foster a drug-free environment for the local community.
