In a daring operation, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district apprehended a terror associate and confiscated a substantial cache of explosives, thwarting a potential terror threat in the region.
The joint operation, conducted by the police, Indian Army, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), resulted in the arrest of Mohammed Shabir, a suspected terror associate, at a checkpost in Poonch’s Potha bypass. Shabir’s suspicious behavior aroused the attention of security personnel, who swiftly apprehended him as he attempted to flee.
Recovery of Explosives and Incriminating Materials
A thorough search of Shabir’s possessions yielded three hand grenades, explosive items, and other incriminating materials. Preliminary investigations revealed that Shabir was in contact with his Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK)-based handler, Azim Khan, who directed him to collect the arms from Surankot.
Unraveling the Terror Network
Shabir’s arrest and the seizure of explosives have shed light on the intricate terror network operating in the region. The investigation has also highlighted the role of overground workers (OGWs) in facilitating terror activities.
This breakthrough comes on the heels of previous successes, including the arrest of two Jaish-e-Mohammed OGWs linked to the Kathua terror attack, which claimed the lives of five soldiers and injured five others.
