Empowering Education: Jammu and Kashmir’s Remarkable Stride towards Excellence

In a heartening development towards empowering education, the Jammu and Kashmir government has announced a substantial increase in student enrollment. Majority of government-run schools have witnessed a decent rise in enrollment ratio for the ongoing academic year. This remarkable achievement highlights government’s unwavering commitment to providing accessible and equitable education to all children in the region.

The enrollment figures have witnessed a significant surge, with over 1.2 lakh students joining government schools compared to previous year. This impressive growth represents a 17% increase which propels the total enrollment from approximately 12 lakh in 2021-22 to 14.18 lakh in 2022-23. And further to 13.84 lakh in 2023-24 (excluding Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya and Kendriya Vidyalaya).

The proactive enrollment drives and campaigns launched by the government have been instrumental in this success. The newly admitted students, comprising 64,500 children in Jammu division and 55,869 children in Kashmir division, embody the hope and promise of a brighter future.

This remarkable trend underscores a significant shift in parents’ and students’ preference towards government schools. Once perceived as inferior to private institutions, govt institutions are now giving a tough competition to the private schools. The government has made significant strides in enhancing infrastructure, providing better facilities and ensuring quality education. These efforts have been crucial in bridging the educational gap. By empowering education and knowledge in the valley, the government is helping youth to succeed. This support enables them to thrive in today’s competitive world. Additionally, this is allowing them to reach new heights and achieve their full potential.

As the renowned educationist, Malala Yousafzai, once said, “Education is the power to think clearly, the power to act well in the world’s work, and the power to appreciate life.” The Jammu and Kashmir government’s initiatives have truly embodied this spirit, empowering students to become active participants in the region’s growth and development.
